If you don’t yet know the reusable and washable capsule, then it will change your life and your consumption! Indeed, you are probably aware that the coffee capsules that we use for Nespresso machines for example, both of the brand and any other, are made of aluminum. And as I told you in my article on zero waste food packaging, aluminum is worse than plastic in terms of pollution since it takes between 100 and 200 years for it to degrade!!!
So, to reduce waste and protect the environment, even when you have coffee, you can opt for refillable coffee capsules. Made of stainless steel, or PVC for certain models, they therefore allow several things and have many advantages, starting with your budget!
You know the price of a capsule, around 20 cents each, and therefore you know that over a year, that gives you at least €75 worth of capsules to buy, if of course you are content to only take one. ‘one per day. But even one per day, you can save money, since these reusable pods and washable cost on average between €15 and €25 for the best. Needless to say, the calculation is quick and the savings are significant!
Besides this financial aspect of course there will be the ecological aspect! And that’s what brings me to tell you about this product. Because with a refillable capsule, you no longer throw away, no more waste, especially since this type of product is difficult to recycle! Of course there will also be quality, since you can put the type of coffee you want in it, and since it is cheaper, you can even treat yourself and have excellent ground coffee!

Choice & Purchase: How to choose and buy the best one in this comparative ranking?
Now that you know more about the advantages of buying a reusable and washable coffee capsule, and that you have discovered my selection of the best of 2026, it is time to make your choice! And to choose yours (or them?) you must look at certain criteria and take a few points into consideration.
The choice of material is the first element to look at! Indeed, as I told you above, we find them in different materials. In stainless steel on the one hand, which will be stronger, more resistant and therefore will last longer. On the other hand, those made of polypropylene, PVC, or other plastic variants. Of course with the idea of zero waste, I recommend stainless steel models without hesitation!
You will also have the choice between batches, or individually. Since the coffees are brewed one by one, unless you have several machines, purchasing them individually is sufficient. However, having one or two spare capsules aside is still good, because you will have to wash them after each use and therefore before using them again.

How to clean and maintain before reuse?
Obviously, and given that it is a washable and reusable product, it is important to maintain it well. Whether for the quality and taste of the coffee, but also for the durability of the said capsule. The better you maintain it, the longer it will last and the better your coffee will be, it makes sense.
To clean it properly, I recommend doing it after each use. Some people will tend, between two coffees, to just remove the grounds and add more. But I strongly recommend running it under water, rubbing the filter well to remove deposits and drying it before making coffee again. This is why I recommend having several capsules.
Although they can be washed in the dishwasher, I do not recommend it. On the one hand because it will damage your dishwasher, make it greasy, etc., but above all because if you wait too long to pour the capsule, the coffee will dry out inside and the filter will become clogged. The ideal is therefore to empty it and wash it, just after making the coffee, while it is still hot. And why not, by the way, put the grounds in a compost bin, rather than directly thrown away!
