In previous articles I talked to you about cooking and traveling, this time I’m going to tackle another place where we find a lot of waste, it’s the bathroom!
Because here again, it is possible to reduce consumption, but above all to avoid pollution. For this once again, it is a question of buying and replacing some toiletries and we are going to discover them together! I’m not saying that everything is essential, but you will see that it can be very simple all the same!
Hygiene and care products
We don’t necessarily think about it, but hygiene and care products, like shower soap, shampoo or the like, are very polluting. Directly discharged into our pipes, it is possible to improve this by changing the type of product. But also once again because of the packaging!
You can start by buying organic or natural products, which then reduce the production of chemical elements that will be put inside. But we can go further by purchasing products without packaging, in bulk for example when possible. Finally, the best solution is to make them yourself, once again using natural elements.
Among the products concerned by these points, we find everything related to dental hygiene (toothpaste, mouthwash), body hygiene (shampoos, shower gels), and everything else such as laundry detergent, hand soap, etc. ..
Household products
And yes, everyone goes through this stage, cleaning and maintaining showers, toilets, bathtubs and bathrooms in general. The products used for cleaning are generally very toxic and contain many chemicals! Here again it is possible to reduce waste and water pollution, since it will go into wastewater, by opting for suitable products.
In other words, natural or organic cleaning products, but also homemade. For example, we can use white vinegar (alcohol) to clean, which is very effective against limescale, but also to eliminate bacteria, etc. To flavor you can use lemon juice for example, which will add a touch of acidity while serving for stubborn stains.
Toiletries
Finally, in your toiletries there are accessories that you can replace if you want to opt for the zero waste or in any case do the best you can. Among the items that can be replaced are cotton swabs, makeup remover pads, toothbrushes, combs, etc.
We now find these in more ecological materials such as bamboo, but above all which are not disposable! No more waste or plastic in the oceans with reusable and washable models.
Why do it? What advantages?
Replacing disposable products with reusable or waste-free items in the bathroom is not only environmentally friendly, but can also save money!
Over time, small changes such as ditching the single-use razor in favor of a safety razor or bringing your own container to the store to buy shampoo in bulk can have a huge impact on reducing of your ecological footprint while guaranteeing you an effective and pleasant bathing routine.
On top of that, you’ll save a lot of money by avoiding extra costs and packaging for each product you purchase. So why not try zero waste in your bathroom? The environment, and maybe even your wallet, will thank you.
And you, are you doing something for the planet in your bathroom? Zero waste or not?
