When I talk about feminine hygiene, I especially think about menstruation periods. You are aware that periodic protection, in addition to being expensive, is very polluting.
Based on the model of I use and throw away, it is possible to avoid waste and therefore pollute by replacing them! There are three solutions or rather zero waste alternatives when it comes to feminine hygiene. I invite you to discover them below.
The menstrual cup
There menstrual cup, not yet well known enough, is one of the best eco-friendly periodic protection solutions. Halfway between a tampon and a towel, it allows you to maintain the flow of your periods within a small cup. Once full and after each use, simply wash the organic menstrual cup to reuse it. It’s not necessarily the most comfortable, but in terms of value for money, and especially lifespan, it’s the best.
Washable sanitary napkins
If indeed the menstrual cup is not your favorite, because you are already not a fan of tampons and you prefer them panty liners, then the washable and reusable sanitary napkin is what you need. This is the principle that a normal towel, it protects just as well, is just as effective, except that it does not have to be thrown away after use! Save money, but above all we avoid pollution.
Menstruation panties
In addition to the towel mentioned above, and for greater comfort, we also find menstruation panties. It works about the same in terms of absorption, but it is much more comfortable. Because it’s exactly like real panties, except that at the bottom there is integrated protection.
3 ways to save money!
In addition to the ecological aspect of these three alternative solutions to periodic protection used as part of feminine hygiene during periods, there is an economic aspect. Indeed, towels or tampons, although inexpensive individually, are ultimately a real budget all year round! Opting for washable and reusable solutions as mentioned above will save you a lot of money. Because we no longer throw it away after 1 day, but we keep it for months or even years.
My opinion on zero waste in feminine hygiene
So I have to say that at first personally I wasn’t really convinced by these alternatives. But wanting to move towards zero waste to protect the environment, etc., I still tried!
At the start clearly, this changes! The three are clearly different in terms of comfort. However, after a while you get used to it. In the same way, when it comes to practicality, it’s different. Because if before we just threw it away and it’s done, now we have to wash, disinfect, etc. And it takes longer.
But ultimately, it’s the budget that will finally convince me! After calculating over the year what it can cost when we take disposable products and compare them with reusable products, there is no comparison! So, in addition to being eco-friendly, I’m also doing good for my wallet, and that’s not nothing!
