I also found a short video, which brings together 11 tips and tricks, to bringeco-responsibility in your kitchen. It’s simple, easy to set up and accessible to everyone, so as someone would say, the change is now!

Video: Be eco-responsible in the kitchen in 11 tips and tricks!

My 11 tips and tricks for a 0 waste kitchen

  • 1. Buy fresh, local foods: This reduces the distance that food travels before arriving on your plate and therefore reduces the carbon footprint. By purchasing seasonal produce, you can also support local farmers and encourage local production.
  • 2. Avoid plastic packaging: Plastic packaging is a real scourge for the environment. To reduce your use of plastic in the kitchen, choose reusable packaging or glass containers for your food and drinks.
  • 3. Choose organic products: Organic products have been grown without pesticides and chemicals harmful to the environment and health. By purchasing organic products, you support farmers who practice responsible agriculture.
  • 4. Use leftovers: A lot of food ends up in the trash when it could be eaten. Reuse leftovers to make new dishes or use them for broth or soup.
  • 5. Compost food waste: Composting is an eco-friendly method of recycling food waste and turning it into natural fertilizer for plants. Place a composter in your garden or use an apartment composting system.
  • 6. Save water: Water is a precious resource that must be protected. Save water by avoiding leaving the tap on unnecessarily, collecting rainwater to water your plants, and repairing water leaks.
  • 7. Avoid frozen foods: Frozen products require a large amount of energy to produce and transport. They are also often packaged in plastic. Prefer fresh or canned foods.
  • 8. Grow your own herbs: There’s nothing better than cooking with fresh herbs. Grow your own at home to avoid buying them packaged in plastic. It’s also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.
  • 9. Reduce food packaging : Food product packaging represents a large amount of waste. Prefer products in bulk or buy large quantities to reduce packaging.
  • 10. Use eco-friendly cleaning products: Conventional cleaning products often contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment and health. Use eco-friendly cleaning products to reduce your impact on the environment.
  • 11. Avoid food waste: Food waste is a big problem. To avoid waste, plan your meals in advance, freeze leftovers and use them later, and buy only what you need.

Zero waste cooking, almost possible!

become eco-responsible in the kitchenI myself have also discussed some of these tips in some of my articles. In particular and for example, with regard to the composting of food, in my post on compost bin. But also on the subject of cling film in my article on freezer bags, or the filter bottle to filter water.

I could have produced an article similar to this video, but sincerely, I find it so well done and well explained, that I prefer to share it directly with you. It’s the same thing!

For the moment I don’t yet apply all the tips or advice, due to lack of knowledge, but I will be able to get started! I’m thinking of homemade dishwasher tablets in particular.

And you, do you apply all the points in this video? Are you eco-responsible in the kitchen?
